About the 2007 Summit

"I hold tightly to the feeling of elation and expansiveness I felt at the end of the Summit. BYM truly broke down so many mental barriers for me and showed me that I can make my life exactly what I want it to be - significant, not just successful.
"

- Laura Perusco

"The BYM Summit is an outstanding opportunity for a group of passionate young people to collectively develop social initiatives. I was pleasantly surprised by the energy and enthusiasm shown by many delegates - their work and commitment for a better future are inspiring. This year's theme of corporate social responsibility came at a crucial time when many start to question the practices of many national and multinational corporations. The speakers and ensuing discussions empowered all of us, which was reflected in a number of the proposed projects. The highlight for me was the presentation by Tim Costello - insightful, thought-provoking, and relevant to everyone. The Summit creates a network that you can contribute to and draw on for years to come. It is an opportunity not to be missed!

"I find it hard to believe how lucky and privileged I was to be selected to spend the week in the company of some of the most intelligent, motivated and just genuinely nice people I've ever met. The diversity of the group - in age, background and interests - made the experience all the richer. I've taken so much from those few days thanks to the various presentations by speakers but most of all from the other delegates simply being who they are."

- Lisa Caripis

"I had an incredible week. The energy, passion and achievements were truly profound and gave me a lot of hope for our future. The conversations I had over the week - both personal and professional in nature were insightful, challenging and inspirational. The energy we generated together using minds, hearts and even drums permeated through me to my absolute core."

- Victoria Saint

"The [Australia]2020 summit is a little over a week away now...Leading up to the event they have asked the delegates to do some preparation, and have opened up a collaborative web site. Two questions were asked, 1. What is the one thing you could do to make a difference in your area? and 2. Write about 1 thing you have changed your mind about in the past 10 years - these were then  put  on the collaborative web site. Reading over the ideas people have who are going to the summit (I read probably 200), I was honestly as impressed, if not more, with what came out of BYM last year. I think there's a lot to be said about young people's capacity to come up with really innovative ideas to the world problems."

- Greg Nelson, 2007 BYM Delegate and
2008 Australia 2020 Delegate

"The Brightest Young Minds Summit was an incredible event in which to participate.  I encourage all youth, no matter their background, to stand up for their principles, join in on initiatives like the ‘Make Poverty History’ campaign and apply for selection into Brightest Young Minds 2008.  Through these avenues, you can make great friends with like-minded young people, have your voice heard in a supportive forum, pursue the idea of starting your own business and help to make a difference in the world"

- Vanessa Cullen

"I found myself in such an amazing environment- A room full of enthusiastic, dedicated young people from a diverse range of backgrounds. But what's more they were people who were prepared to listen, and to share ideas. People who really believed in thinking about the worlds problems at the biggest scale, but also how to solve them at the smallest scale. The ideas that were able to be formulated in 5 days were incredible, and could have only happened in this unique environment. More than anything else, I was left with the feeling that I really could make the world a better place!

I would thoroughly reccomend BYM to anyone who likes to think big and make a difference in the world!"
