Social Innovation Sparked by Australia's Brightest Youth

100 young Australians have gathered at The University of Sydney and Google's Australian HQ this week to tackle our biggest social issues in a collaborative environment at the 2010 Brightest Young Minds conference.

"We're encouraging Australia's best and brightest to become socially responsible leaders, and providing a platform from which they will launch purposeful and financially viable social initiatives" BYM Summit director Glen Vollebregt said.

"For the next four days, Australia's top 10 CEOs, business leaders, social entrepreneurs and leading thinkers will work with Australia's best and brightest young people to develop businesses with social benefit."

In a successful day yesterday, delegates advised the Commissioners of Tourism Australia (Rick Allert until 30 June 2010) and the Australian Tax Office (Micahel D'Ascenzo) on key future trends in the Australian community during a consulting partnership which covers the costs of the summit.

Mentored by Australia's leading thinkers and entrepreneurs, these young leaders from around the country have come together to develop initiatives to tackle issues including poverty, crime, mental illness and climate change.

The Conference's guest list of inspirational speakers includes former Fair Pay Commission Chair and Bank of America advisory board member Ian Harper former Young Australian of the Year Hugh Evans, World Vision CEO Tim Costello, former NSW Premier Bob Carr, The Big Issue's CEO Steven Persson, Rhodes Scholar and CEO of Access Innovation Tony Abrahams and environmental leader Anna Rose.
